The World Schools Football Cup returned for its fifth edition last weekend, as a thousand young players descended on Barcelona to battle it out on the world stage.

A total of 78 teams from 40 schools in 20 different countries took part in the prestigious event, making WSG Football 2025 the biggest and best one yet.

The second event in the 2025/26 World School Games Event Series, WSG Football 2025 also welcomed global technology firm, Finvasia, on board as headline sponsor to further elevate the tournament and offer extra value to all participants.

The World Schools Football Cup – Powered by Finvasia, as it was rebranded, was once again held at the idyllic Mediterranean Sports Hub, offering our young players the opportunity to stay and play in some of the world’s finest facilities.

With schools arriving from Thursday, the action properly got underway on Friday afternoon with a newly-added extra half-day of group stage matches, our Schools Parade, and Opening Ceremony.

The drummers from Bombastik Percusion provided the soundtrack as each and every athlete marched together in a loud and colourful celebration of cultures. We then welcomed our school captains on stage before being ‘wowed’ by an incredible performance by Joan Freestyle.

On Saturday, the first full day of matches got underway. Teams were competing across seven different categories – U11 Boys, U13 Boys & Girls, U15 Boys & Girls, U17 Boys and U18 Girls – and took part in a number of group stage matches over the course of Saturday and into Sunday morning.

After the group stages were wrapped up, teams split off into their corresponding knockout competitions for a chance to lift some WSG Football silverware and write their names into the history books as World Champions of School Football.

The large band of supporters in attendance – as well as those watching via our multi-pitch global live stream offering – were treated to some spectacular team and individual performances over the weekend.
