The inaugural World School Games Olympia took place last week, with over 1200 young athletes from across the globe descending on Doha, Qatar for three action-packed days of athletics, swimming, and football!
A total of 65 different athlete nationalities were represented at the Games, with 31 different schools from seven countries taking part in the multisport event which is the crown jewel in the international school sporting calendar.
For the first time since moving from Dubai, the event was hosted in Doha at the incredible Aspire Zone.
The incredible facilities – with athletics, swimming, and football all under one roof in the world’s largest multipurpose sports dome – took the event to the next level and cemented WSG Olympia’s position as the grandest stage in school sport.
It was on that stage that athletes competed in U11, U13, and U15 age categories, putting in some incredible individual and team performances on the world stage.
Each age group took to the track, pool, or field in a different sport each day. The Aspire Zone was a constant hive of activity as athletes battled it out while representing themselves, their school, and their country on the world stage.
Not only were hundreds of individual and sport-specific medals up for grabs, but every single race, match, jump, and throw counted as schools collected points on the Overall Leaderboard.
It all began on Thursday with our grand Opening Ceremony on Aspire’s indoor athletics track. Marching to the beat of Nova Drums Qatar , we met our participants as they paraded around the track and soaked up the atmosphere in what was a celebration of sport and culture.
Then, it was down to business. Up first was U11 Football, U13 Athletics, and U15 Swimming as the Games got underway and our athletes began to show what they could do on an international stage.
Two more days of action followed with U11 Athletics, U13 Swimming, and U15 Football on Friday, and U11 Swimming, U13 Football, and U15 Athletics on Saturday.
Hundreds of medals were won and thousands of team points accumulated as some of the best young athletes came together with the aim of being crowned World Champions of School Sport.
Let’s now take a look at who came out on top with our official WSG Olympia Team Roll of Honour…
