WSG Football back in Barcelona this weekend

The 2025/26 World School Games Event Series continues this weekend as over a thousand young players are set to descend on Barcelona to compete for The World Schools Football Cup – Powered by Finvasia.

A total of 78 teams from 40 schools in 20 different countries will take part in the prestigious event – which is returning for its sixth edition – as they battle it out to be crowned the World Champions of School Football.

A true celebration of global cultures and sport, WSG Football 2025 promises to be bigger and better than ever before – providing budding young athletes the ultimate platform on which to unite, develop, and showcase their talents.

The event will once again be held at Futbol Salou’s state-of-the-art facilities within the idyllic Mediterranean Sports Hub – widely regarded as one of the finest footballing venues on the planet.

Teams will be split across seven age groups – U11 Boys, U13 Boys & Girls, U15 Boys & Girls, U17 Boys, U18 Girls – with group stage matches preceding knockout games in Cup, Plate, and Bowl competitions where applicable.

Extended for 2025, initial matches will kick-off on Friday afternoon before our WSG Football Opening Ceremony in the evening. Bombastik Percussió will once again provide the soundtrack during the teams’ march – a fan-favourite addition to last year’s event.

We’ll welcome our School Captains and country representatives on stage before a very special performance by football freestyler Joan Freestyle will round things off in style.

Into Saturday, matches will commence at 9am CET across our seven pitches as each team plays a number of Group Stage matches. The last of these preliminary matches will then be concluded on Sunday, before teams split off into their relevant knockout competitions.

A number of Cups, Plates, Bowls, and Medals will be up for grabs over the weekend, as well as Player of the Match awards which will be given out following the conclusion of selected matches.

We are once again delighted to confirm that selected matches will be broadcast live throughout the tournament on the World School Games Event Series YouTube Channel!

All 63 matches played on Pitches B (7-a-side) and C (11-a-side) will be streamed live over Saturday and Sunday, with professional commentators on hand to keep audiences informed as they watch on from afar.

Regular multimedia updates will be posted across the World School Games Event Series social media platforms on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X to keep spectators informed.

The official WSG Football Live Blog will also be publicised over the coming days, providing a blow-by-blow account of the competition right from the heart of the action.
