The 2025/26 World School Games Event Series continued last weekend as hundreds of young players descended on Valencia, Spain for The World School Basketball Championships 2025!
Returning for its fifth edition, over 350 athletes from 23 schools spanning 14 countries took part in WSG Basketball – a truly global celebration of culture and sport.
We were especially delighted this year to welcome participants from new countries, such as Ethiopia and Scotland, which added a new international dimension to the prestigious competition.
The event was once again held at L’Alqueria del Basket’s state-of-the-art facilities for the third time. Boasting 13 indoor and outdoor courts, the iconic basketballing venue is home to Valencia Basket’s men’s and women’s teams, and is situated next door to the 20,000-seater Roig Arena.
After our teams arrived in Valencia from across the globe, the action officially got underway on Friday. Following training sessions, pre-event media duties, and facility tours, it was time for the WSG Basketball Opening Ceremony and highly-anticipated All-Star matches.
The perfect way to open the event, our Opening Ceremony brought everyone together for the first time as we met our School Captains and got ready for the weekend ahead. Then, it was All-Stars time.
After proving to be hugely popular during our 2024 event, the WSG Basketball All-Stars returned to pit Team Europe against Team Rest of the World in Girls, Boys, and Teachers matches.
Made up of randomly-selected players from schools across the continents, the matches were watched by a raucous crowd cheering on their friends and teachers – as well as by a global audience via our YouTube live stream.
Team Europe emerged victorious across the three matches, narrowly holding off a late Rest of the World comeback in the Teachers match to secure the victory after a fantastic evening.
The ‘proper’ action then tipped off on Saturday morning as our teams took part in Group Stage matches across U16 and U19 Boys and Girls age categories – with each and every match on our Show Court beamed across the world via our multi-camera live stream.
Group Stage matches continued into Sunday morning as the league standings began to take shape, before our teams split off into their relevant knockout competitions for a chance to lift some silverware and write their names into the WSG Basketball history books.
