The World School Games Event Series is today pleased to announce the exciting addition of a seventh event to our calendar – The World Schools Dance Championship!
New for the 2025/26 academic year, the inaugural World Schools Dance Championship – or WSG Dance – will take place between 11-15th June 2026 and will be held in London, England.
The iconic UK Capital is a global hub for culture, creativity, and performance, making it the perfect place to stage our new, truly unique Dance event.
The Shaw Theatre – located in the heart of the city – will host the event, providing our participants with the opportunity to compete in a spectacular, highly-professional setting.
The theatre has been a celebrated venue for dance, musical theatre, and live concerts since 1971, and offers state-of-the-art facilities to both performers and audiences alike.
The welcoming mezzanine, versatile rehearsal studio, impressive backstage, and grand auditorium makes it the perfect place for young dancers to showcase their talents on the world stage.
About the event
WSG Dance encompasses a number of once-in-a-lifetime dance and performance experiences into one spectacular event.
It is open to dancers across three age groups – U11 (Primary), U15 (Junior), and U19 (Senior).
The Grand Show is the pinnacle of WSG Dance and is when we’ll crown the World Champions of School Dance. Schools will have the opportunity to enter a performance in up to four categories at each age group – Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Open (all other categories).
The WSG Dance experience extends far beyond the Grand Show, however, with numerous exciting opportunities for students to take part in during their stay in London.
Students will enjoy exclusive access to professional feedback during rehearsals in the lead up to the Grand Show, whilst also taking part in a number of industry-led workshops across the week thanks to our partners at West End Workshops .
Dancers will then get the opportunity to take part in Q&A sessions with West End performers, tour iconic theatres, and even sit down to watch a world-famous West End show. They’ll also get the opportunity to visit some of London’s famous landmarks with our optional post-event excursions.
As with all of our events, WSG Dance competitors will experience our professional-level media coverage as we celebrate their achievements and showcase their talents to viewers across the globe.
As well as a post-event documentary, our media team will live stream every single peformance with a specialist commentary team to bring the action to life.
Video highlights, action photos, and exclusive interviews on our social media platforms will also add to the experience as our dancers get the high quality coverage their talents deserve.
Head of the World School Games Event Series, Daniel Shields, spoke of his excitement at adding another event to the Series:
"We are absolutely delighted to add The World Schools Dance Championship to the World School Games Event Series next year in London.
"Giving young people the chance to perform in top class environments is a key feature of the WSG Event Series and we are excited to give students from across the globe the chance to experience being on stage in London, dancing with their peers in a working professional theatre.
"We can’t wait to welcome schools from near and far to the UK in June to be part of the very first edition of WSG Dance!"
